Halloween 2012 FOTD.

Happy Halloween, y'all! It's been a while. Sorry about that.
I just finished my first-ever shift handing out candy to the humorless kids in my neighborhood. A twelve-year-old who was dressed up like Death and wore a sign that said "Toxic" around his neck got completely lost when I asked him if he was Britney Spears. C'mon, kid! You dont just forget 2007.
On with the makeup of today!

Face:
Makeup Forever Mat Velvet Foundation in "15."
MAC Studio Finish Concealer in "NC15."
ELF Complexion Perfection Powder.
NARS blush in "Luster."

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion.
Bare lids (regrettably, it made everything look super sloppy. I was in a rush!).
MAC eyeshadow in "Wedge" in the brows, through the crease, and below the lower lashline.*
MAC eyeshadow in "Handwritten" applied as a cut crease and put in the outer corner.*
MAC eyeshadow in "Carbon" pressed into the upper lashline.
MAC eyeshadow in "Mylar" as a browbone and inner corner highlight.
Revlon GrowLucious Mascara in "Blackest Black."

Lips:
MAC lipliner in "Plum."
MAC lipstick in "Bust Out!" (LE)

Can you tell I'm rediscovering MAC eyeshadows? At least they're all hand-me-downs.
The lip showed up much brighter + purpler in person, but oh well. "Bust Out!" is basically a straight up summery purple with hints of magenta. To give you an idea, the most accurate swatches of the lipstick on its own are the bottom two on this blog post. "Plum" lipliner gives it the final bump of opacity it needs for fall wear and darkens it up a tad.

Thanks for reading! :)

Until next time,
Peyton

P.S. Taylor, you need to step up your blog game. This not posting business is not very soft grunge of you.

Vampy Lipsticks for Pale Skin!

Hey, guys!
I was going to write a blog post about the crème de la crème of fall lipsticks today, but I remembered someone telling me today, "You look like a vampire today. It's kind of hot," and someone else saying, "You look paler than usual," and BAM. Vampy lips! Pale skin! Beauty bloggin' swag 2k12 y'all.

The one of the best parts of fall is being able to pull of crazy dramatic lips like this and not look insane. Now is the time to experiment with dark shades. A vampy lip, when done right, can look more autumnal than a purple and bronze smokey eye.

Bold lips look more intense on pale skin tones. You have to be careful to choose shades that really work for your complexion. It's so, so, so easy to go overboard and look washed out and dead if you don't balance your makeup or choose the right color. For reference: If they went lower than NC15, I would be about NC10 on the MAC scale, so my skin tone, like my personality, is pretty colorless. I'm a solid match for NARS Siberia.

Left to right: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in "Crush," MAC lipstick in "Media," NARS lipstick in "Scarlet Empress," NYX Round Lipstick in "Snow White." Taken in direct sunlight.

NYX Round Lipstick in "Snow White."
Snow White is a quintessential darkened red. While it can be worn on its own (which is my preference), you can play up the bright red tones or darken it further with an appropriately colored lipliner, making it more versatile. The lipstick itself is the creamiest I own and applies beautifully. Once put on, it stains your lips and lasts for two-four hours. Reapplications are necessary, but they're not something you have to pay attention to. It's not drying. The finish is everything I wish MAC Cremesheen lipsticks were. Not satin, not too shiny, just... creamy. That being said, this lipstick is prone to transferring and smudging. There's no noticeable shimmer. This is probably my favorite of the bunch. The formula and shade of Snow White is FLAWLESS, and it retails at $4. FOUR DOLLARS Y'ALL.

NARS Lipstick in "Scarlet Empress."
Okay, first and foremost, at $25, this product is puke-inducingly expensive. It took months of lusting, reading reviews, swatching, and obsessing for me to pull the trigger. It's described on the NARS website as a "jewel-toned blue-red," which is an oversimplification, but it works. In the swatch above, I put on one layer. At first, it's a workable daytime color for normal people. However, it builds up beautifully and can be made into a gorgeous dark fuchsia-plum-red-heaven sort of deal. It brings out my green eyes and pale skin unlike anything else I own, and the shade itself can't be found anywhere else. The uniqueness of this shade makes it worth the ridiculous pricetag. This what I wore today that provoked the vampire comment. I didn't apply lip balm at all today, just reapplied this, and my lips are in surprisingly good condition. It stains your lips, leaving a nice berry color as it wears off. Scarlet Empress doesn't do that annoying thing when it wears from the inside and leaves a lipliner-lookin' thing. It's one of NARS' semi-matte finish lipsticks, which is basically what would happen if a Satin lipstick was creamier. This lipstick is creamy as NARS lipsticks famously are, but it's not so emollient that it goes everywhere.

MAC lipstick in "Media."
This lipstick is not for the faint of heart. Media is a deep plum with a tiny bit of red running through it. This is a HIGHLY pigmented lipstick, but you can do a lot with it. Layer one is shown above, and it's obviously very dark. Pile on another layer or two, and you've got a legitimately blackened plum. This can be made too dark even for my skewed taste, which is saying something. For the daytime, I will usually apply one to two layers, blot it down, and blend the color with a finger to create a plummy, lastly less intense lip stain. You can build it up, blot it down, pair it will various lipliners, add gloss, and mix it with other shades to create a TON of looks. Out of all the lipsticks I own, this is by far the most multipurpose. The one complaint I have it that Satin finishes are drying as hell, and it's so bad that even with lip balm, I sometimes can't get through the day because of how cracked my lips will look. Dark lip colors enhance that stuff man. Super lame.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in "Crush."
Revlon needs to realize that lip products are not Panic! At the Disco song titles and shorten these names up a tad. JFC, who is going to recommend a "kissen butthole bitten stainable just balm" to a friend? Ain't nobody got time for that, Revlon. The packing would lead to to believe that this is a dark color in the league of Media, but no no no. This stuff is pretty sheer. You have to pile it on to get a true dark lip. That's nice for people who want a vampy plum but don't want to go all out, but for me, it's the color is not that practical. That being said, the longevity of this is pretty gr8. I pile it on, blot, then pile some more on and it'll last me for a solid five hours or more color-wise. I only reapply for moisture purposes. It's not drying by any means, but it's certainly not a balm like it claims.

I tried ok goodnight I tired
I hope u enjoyed my novella
I'm probably going t have to do a how to: bold lip post now
sigh so much work
how much fluff can I put here
meow

Taylor: These are a few of my favourite things

From Top Left: Benefit Browzings, Nars Blush in Orgasam, EOS lip balm, Urban Decay Singles in Freelove, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil-Free, Benefit High Beam highlighter, Benefit Benetint, Fresh Sugar Lip treatment, Too faced lip injection, Nars Lipgloss in Orgasam

Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash-
-"gentle as water" and they're not lying. It has never failed me, no matter how many times I stray, I come back to this. It gets really foamy and has the scent of clean laundry!

Raw Shea Butter-
     - no weird stuff. just pure moisture! It may take awhile for your skin to get used to it, but its worth it! It gives off such a healthy glow. You can get it at your local flea market I promise.

Smashbox Photo finish Oil-free
   - gives me protection from whatever i plaster on my face that day, I don't go a day of makeup without it.
I even put it under the BB and over the Shea butter.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB (currently using deluxe tester)
     - Literally what i use as foundation, I get kinda freaked when its too heavy and this is perfect. I look all dewy and smooth. Weird consistency, and I sometimes have to do some real blending, but its worth it.

Too Faced Lash Injection
     - FAT LASHES AND A PERFECT CURL. I just really have to make sure I flick my lashes at the end.

Benefit Browzings-dark
-Ok I can't go a day without doing my brows I look so weird. If I wear nothing else, I AM PROBABLY WEARING THIS. This is a gel and powder set, with an angled and blending brush. this along with a basic spoolie is the best thing that ever happened to my eyebrows.

        Nars Blush in Orgasam
            - Pretty much the best thing that ever happened to my multi toned face,           It lasts and you will definitely get some "you have some glow going on, what chu been doing?" questions!

Nars Lipgloss in Orgasam
  - I'm that girl with the matching gloss and blush, but it gives me a weirdly innocent pout that I just love. It doesn't gloss as much as it does colour, and gives your lips a dewy look.

Urban decay eyeshadow in Freelove
 - I wear this almost every day I kid you not. It makes me feel cute as a button. But as you can probably tell, I'm really into golden peaches. I really am. But this is a really loose texture and you have to be pretty good with that to use it to its full potential. Its really great with darker eyes and black black thick eyelashes.

To be continued

Peyton Piranha and the Holy Grail

I wanted to make a Monty Python reference and embarrass myself by bringing up my s00p3r sc3ne kw33n self-made nickname from middle school, so here we are. Cheesiest title ever? Probably not. It's all downhill from here. I'm so, so sorry for the number of bad puns that will happen during the existence of this blog.

Anywho, to kick off this new beauty-tastic project, I figured it would be best to establish my holy grail products. This is all stuff I've been using for a year or longer and I don't consider to be apart of a stylish phase (hence the lack of glitter). Let's actually get started.

(Some of the stuff pictured I was like, "Wait, but this doesn't actually fit my definition of holy grail. Whoops," so that's why there's not a blurb on some of these.)

E.L.F. Clear Mascara/Brow Gel: $1
This stuff is the bomb. It keeps your eyebrows in place forever and makes it easy to shape your brows before filling them in. I see no need to shell out $15 for a brow gel from MAC when this stuff exists for a buck.

Urban Decay Primer Potion: $19
I'm a total bandwagoner on this one, but it's a really great product. I used to use MAC's Paint Pot in "Soft Ocre," but I found a coloured base isn't always appropriate. I find that a translucent base such as this is much more versatile. This stuff works flawlessly. It creates a smooth canvas for eyeshadows, makes colors appear brighter, and prevents creasing.

Beauty Rush Minty Kiss Lip Shine (Not Pictured): $9
First of all: I despise lip gloss. It's sticky and ugly and I hate it. HOWEVER, this stuff is none of that. It's smooth and minty and tasty and perfect. Minty Kiss is a simple translucent gloss, so it can be worn on it's own or over any lip gloss to give a high fashion, high shine look. The scent/taste is a really pleasant sweeter mint. It tastes so wonderful and I feel like it freshens my breath. I've been using it for 3-4 years and it's the BOMB. If you don't own this, get on it.

Left to right: MAC Amorous, NARS Luster, MAC Wedge, MAC Blanc Type, MAC Nylon

MAC Lipstick in "Amorous": $15
My lipstick taste probably isn't every cup of tea, but whatever. Amorous is a dark pink with a fair amount of brown and plum in it. I would describe it as more of a "mature" colour due to the brown undertones. It's definitely a bold lip, but that's what I go for on a daily basis. I wear this every other day.

NARS Blush in "Luster": $28
On the Sephora website, Luster is described as an "apricot with golden shimmer," and I think that's pretty on point. On my pale skin, this lights up my complexion. The shimmer in it highlights my skin without making my skin look oily or gross throughout the day. It's a neutral blush, so it goes with any makeup look I could ever want to do. This is a staple, and any person with medium-pale skin needs it in their life.

MAC Eyeshadow in "Wedge"*: $15
My perfect brow colour. The pigmentation is solid but not overwhelming, and it's very buildable. It's the perfect shade for blending out colours. This shade is incredibly multi-purpose and as a result, I use it at least once a day.

MAC Eyeshadow in "Blanc Type"*: $15
This is basically The holy grail eyeshadow. This is pan #3, and I've hit pan. Blanc Type is a light matte shade that nears white, but has enough pink and creme in it to match my skintone. The texture is buttery smooth and it's highly pigmented. It can be applied directly over eye primer or base to help subsequent eyeshadows blend, used as a matte highlight to anchor a darker look, or put all over the lid for a natural look. This stuff is actually perfection.

OK THIS IS ALL, and loads more than necessary. I probably could've went without mentioning half of these, but I suppose I'll get better at getting lists down to the bare minimum as time goes on.

Thank you for surviving this long post!

~ Peyton ~

* Dupes for all of these can be found in the Wet 'N Wild "Vanity" palette! I personally prefer the consistency of the MAC shadows, but I'll use the dupes when I'm vacationing and whatnot.

Who are we?

Who the hell are we? What are we doing here? Those, m'dears, are the questions we must answer.

We are Peyton and Taylor, two terribly misguided teenagers in Richmond, Virginia with unhealthy beauty addictions. The two of us are both super dumb, super glittery, and super humble perfect queens of everything. This blog is a direct result of The Struggle and Taylor noticing Peyton's hand covered in lipstick swatches one day.

Peyton is a musical theatre performer who is famous around her school for the amount of glitter that perpetually covers herself and all of her possessions and the lengths she will go to to avoid wearing pants. She prides herself in her mediocre music taste (The Shins, Foxy Shazam, The Max Levine Ensemble, Title Fight, Die Antwoord, Childish Gambino, Lydia, and LCD Soundsystem are a few favourites) and her ability to break the dress code every day without getting in trouble. Peyton has made most of her friends by surviving the hot mess of a Harry Potter fansite that was Accio-Potter.com and seeing MillsberryForum.org fall apart and come back together a thousand times. She wants to befriend Ezra Miller and live in NYC. You know her name, not her story.

Taylor is an overly privileged ambiguously brown girl, class president every year, driven by non-existant standards of some glamour goddess. A terrible magpie (which has drawn her to Peyton), with a crippling fear of deep water, running eyeliner, cheap perfume, and losing the friendship of her cat: Rico. When not online shopping, napping, or tending to her nub paw'd princess poodle Siren, she plays really awful video games; which is the source of her depleting eyesight. A child who has known the wonders of the internet since 5, aka AOL chatrooms and cursing so she would get banned and laugh. With natural wild ringlets and a Tyra Banks forehead, she has a uncanny and peppy attitude. Be wary of her Marina and The Diamonds obsession, and her occasional visits from her mother who is probably 12.

Look forward to all things related to makeup, fashion, hair, and stupidity. Cheers!

Best wishes!
Peyton and Taylor
